We practiced this morning at the Batter's Box in Hamden. Most of the team made it, especially the players from the southern part of the state were in attendance. We did some conditioning drills, fielding practice, worked with the pitchers and catchers, and got in some hitting drills.
Next week we'll be back at the Batter's Box. The GAB is helping us out with some uniforms and balls. We should have them available for distribution next week.
The boys are all looking sharp. I can't wait for the green grass and warm temps of San Juan!
This blog will hopefully capture some of the highlights of the GAB's 2012 trip to Puerto Rico. After so much fun in 2011 we're ready for round two in 2012. We'll cover the games and the fun as best we can.

Getting Closer!!!
Practice #2 went off without a hitch and the swings are starting to come into form. We've got practice #3 scheduled for Saturday 01/21/12 at "The Batter's Box" in Hamden. This should be a nice commute for a change for those players on the team coming from Hamden, New Haven, and Bridgeport.
The GAB is helping our efforts by supplying us with balls for the trip, uniforms, and a little financial assistance. This is appreciated by the team as it helps keep our expenses down. We've also been able to secure one donation to date from a company in the local area (Edmunds Gages, Farmington). Again, it's all appreciated. The GAB has had a team in Puerto Rico in February in 2009, 2011, and now 2012. Hopefully this presence will continue for years to come.
Lastly, Hamden coach Rick DeMattie's is sponsoring a dinenr at the Italian Club in Hamden on Friday, 02/03/12. The proceeds from this dinner will go towards renting a large van to commute the team to the games. This helps reduce the size of the caravan on the San Juan highways during the moring commute. Please attend the dinenr if you can.

New Year, New Team
It's a Friday night in January and we've put together a new team to head back to San Juan over February vacation. Last year it was mostly GAB guys, with a little Berlin and East Windsor influence. There was a team from the Hamden area down with us last year. The Hamden team was coached by Rick DeMatties and Angel Ramos. Angel and Rick will be helping us this year too.
This year we've combined forces, GAB and Hamden. We're bringing down some GAB players from last year in Dallas Mickey, Larry Pagano, and Will Ramos, and the Hamden group is also bringing down some returning players in Stefan, Barrett, Adam, Anthony and Carlito among others. This group will be joined by GAB newcomers Buddha Blake and Ron Emanuelson.
All in all it looks like we have the making for strong team. The players come from the Legion fields and AAU programs like TCB, All Pro Rebels, and the CT Capitals. We'll play great defense and back our efforts up at the plate.
We've worked out all of the travel arrangements and we're starting to practice. We had our first practice last Sunday at Baseball City in Hartford. The boys are looking sharp. We're booked again this Sunday for another practice. Time to get the arms loose and the sticks swinging! San Juan is only around the corner. Look out, here we come!
